Almost at the end! Woo hoo!

Woo hoo! I am almost finished with my third essay and have some glitches on my html web page! Then I will be almost finished with my first two classes! I can't believe how much time has flown by. It seems like just yesterday the semester started and now in about a week, it will be over. It's been fun, but I am ready for a little break. I hope to catch up on some reading. Well, I'll be off.

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Hello. Anyone else finding that the Courseweb is slow to load this evening? It has been slow all evening. Well, gotta run to get working on my research. Later.

Web Page Design

Wow, so I have been on google page creator getting my web page together and wow. I published what I have thus far and sent it out for feedback. Hopefully, there will be no major changes and then I can send it to my prof. Good grief. Now time to start on my last essay.

Catching up

Okay so I seriously need to catch up on this. I just finished the mandatory on campus orientation/classes in Pittsburgh. I had a wonderful time getting to know everyone. It is so nice to be able to put a face with a name online. Before there were just names, now I can actually picture who I am talking to. I truly enjoyed my time in class even though I was battling a cold, but the hot topic presentations were really interesting. They were all fantastic and if someone asked me what my favorite was, I would have to say, all of them. I enjoyed the classes, however, I was a bit intimidated with all the lap tops. I only wish I had some extra funds to get one. They seem to be very convenient. I just joined the Facebook group and was actually having fun checking it out. Okay so I was really procrastinating on all the reading that I need to do before starting this last essay. I hope that we can all still keep in touch even after we finish at PITT and maybe even have little reunions in Pittsburgh!! All right, enough procrastination. Later! :)

Another entry

Okay, so I am playing around with my Jing presentation. I was able to get it embedded on my blog, however, it is huge and I am not so sure as to how to change it. Oh well, I am moving on to this thoreau assignment. I am going to play with KompoZer and see what happens.

Assignments?Grades?

So what is up with not hearing anything about the assignments completed thus far. There has been nothing. I don't get it? Why? This is discouraging. If someone out there knows what is going on, please spread the word. Thanks. Angela

Monday, July 7, 2008

Hello, not much to report except my pending trip to Pittsburgh on Friday. I am pretty much ready, I am just a bit nervous about going to classes though, due to the fact that most of the cohort work in a Library and know more than I do. I'm still trying to figure out how I am going to get to Oakland on Saturday. Hmm. I hope to know by Friday night. Well, gotta go get some more reading done until chat time. Later.

Wow

Wow, I just tried to copy/paste my Koha URL into my blog. Then I went to a new tab, copied/pasted my URL and holy, moly, I can't believe it worked. God help me. Sorry if I don't know how to "embed" but this works. Hope you like!

Koha Virtual Shelves

Okay, here we go. I have no idea how to "embed" so I am going to hope that copying/pasting the URL works.

Please let me know if this works. Thanks.

Procrastinating

Okay, so yes, I am procrastinating and not working on the Koha assignment. I tried working on it yesterday and kept hitting one stumbling block after another. I have tried emailing a bunch of people, and no response. I have even tried emailing the professor, as usual, no response. Hmmm. I'm not sure what I am going to do about this assignment as I don't know how to proceed. If anyone out there who has gotten my emails could please respond, I'd appreciate it.

OnCampus visit to Pittsburgh

Wow. I just submitted my second essay. The summer semester is half over already. Where did the time go. I can't wait to go to Pittsburgh for our on campus sessions. It will definitely be informative. I can't believe some asked what we should bring. Duh. Um, if you are going to be going to class, then gee, maybe bring everything for classes. The computer thing was already discussed at the beginning of class when someone else asked that. Besides, that's what computer labs are for. Anyway, I am excited for the game. Hopefully, the Pirates will pull off a win or try not to lose to badly i.e. the game against the Yankees. I don't even know why they play the Yankees. That was quite an ass whoopin. So I wonder what kinds of things we will be going over in our classes. We are definitely going to be busy. There are a lot of things listed on the see the city list that lucky for me, I've already done. I would like to go to the Heinz Museum or Carnegie Museum. I love those big statues of dinosaurs outside the Carnegie Museum. The Carnegie Theatre was really fascinating(I was in and felt like "Pretty Woman.") I guess we'll see. It shall be fun as well as spending time with the niece/nephew. Until later, have a great weekend.

Oh I don't know where the time is going. Just finished my second essay. I keep forgetting about this. Blogging is time consuming for sure. I am done for the day. I will be off to work about 1:30. Bye

I"m sorry, I'm having a hard time keeping up with this. I am trying but time keeps slipping away from me. Gotta run, other assignments are waiting.

Assignments

Okay, so I spent the day finishing the Web of Science assignment, I hope. Unless the TA's tell me otherwise. I also tried to go onto the ePrints3 database and was not having any luck. Have no idea how to go about using it. I hope I get some answers, otherwise, I will need to call the TA's tomorrow to confirm. Now I am off to read!

Scopus Assignment

Okay, I think I got the first part of the Scopus assignment done, but am not too sure about the second part. I will need to work on the Web of Science Citation Alerts and the Scopus feeds tomorrow, provided I know what I am doing. Otherwise, I am tired, and will hit the showers before retiring to bed with my Google Apps Hacks book. Good night.

Busy week

Okay, so I am getting a little behind at this. I just got my computer back yesterday and so far so good. Everything seems to be working fine. I just finished the first part of the Scopus assignment. I've captured 100 citations on open source computing in education, exported them and imported them into a folder on RefWorks. Whohoo! Now I am going to get the Google Scholar part done.

Life

Well, it's Saturday, and my first big essay assignment is completed. I started it on Tuesday and it is now finished. Wow, what an accomplishment. So now I am reading the Glut book. I haven't looked at any other assignments in depth yet and need a little break. I will take a look tomorrow. Well, my computer will again be going to the shop to have the hard drive/operating system flushed and reinstalled. I'm so thrilled. There better be an extension for this next assignment as I do not know how long this takes. Hopefully no more than a day or so.
My puppy dog is out of the "puppy hospital" now. She was suppose to have her teeth cleaned and a cyst drained, however, she wasn't feeling good and upon testing before the surgery, the vet found that she was on the brink of renal failure. After a few days in the "puppy hospital," with iv fluids and antibiotics, her kidneys too, have been flushed and with the exception of a special diet now, she seems more perky! What a scary week. Now, if my computer can get flushed and "feel better," life will be much better for me! Well, better get back to the book! Have a great weekend!

Good Evening!

Hello. I am not sure what to write this evening as my brain is on writing my essay for LIS2000 of which I have 900 out 1500 words written. I think I will try to write a little more this evening and then finish it up tomorrow and Saturday. At first, I didn't think 1500 words was a lot, but when you start writing, and have a block, it seems as though there is no end in sight.
So I will be having my computer's hard drive/operating system flushed on Tuesday and then reinstalled. If you don't hear from me for awhile that's why. Since I really don't know what all that entails or the time it will take, I am sending to the "shop" for my very favorite tech buddy, Jim to do it. If this doesn't "cure" my system, then I have no idea what could be the problem. Well, I really must get back to this paper. Tootaloo. Have a great night!

Good Morning

Okay so I am trying to keep up with my Blog, but honestly, who has the time for all of this technology? I mean really. It is all very time consuming. I am trying to finish my Delicious tags so tootaloo!

Bookmarking

Okay, so this bookmarking thing with Connotea, Zotero, and Delicious have become more of a hinderance for me than a help. I am not sure if I am doing these things right and I definitely still don't understand the whole export/import thing at all. I am not sure if I am suppose to be exporting/importing on Zotero, Connotea or Delicious or none of them. I have tried using the sslvpn.pitt.edu to search databases, but I have no idea how to get my finds into Connotea, Zotero or Delicious. Do I need to export somehow? I don't feel that I should have been on the computer all day trying to figure this out. When I met with John the other day, he made this all look really easy and now that I am trying to do this, it's not. What shall I do??

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Wow, so I just got back from Pittsburgh. What a great trip. I kept my niece and nephew for 5 days and then yesterday and today I was able to actually get to campus. I met with Sue and as always, she is wonderful! I then went to the Towers to get my ID so it is now official! Today I was able to attend class and it was actually really nice being there! How cool! Then I met with John one of our TA's and this was definitely a great big help with the bookmarking assignments. I am now not so scared but more anxious to use these tools! Technology is so incredible, it's amazing! :)

Until next time,
Angela

Yippy Skippy it's Friday!

Okay so yes, I am excited that it is finally Friday and I am in Pittsburgh. I am staying with my niece/nephew for the next few days. So okay my niece has just shown me what techno idiot I am. It is completely amazing how much kids already know about computers and the internet. First of all she is on her laptop and types faster than I do. She doesn't even have her fingers on the correct keys!! She is in the enrichment program at her school and is as smart as a whip. She has also shown me her "wiki" she uses through her school. By the way did I mention she is only 8! So yes, now I feel behind the times in this ever changing techno world. God help me! Have a great three day weekend all!

Keeping up

I just thought I'd try to keep up by posting. I am getting through the Kuhn book, however, the technical issues still plague me. I was on live chat last night and felt like I was reading and responding to Arabic or some foreign language. My biggest beef is this: Just because you are a techno wizard, doesn't mean everyone else is. I really wish tech people would stop trying to act like they are god with this technology and realize that not everyone out there is that advanced. Would it kill you that much to use regular Leyman's terms so the rest of us can understand too? I just have to get that off my back. It really overwhelmed/stressed me out last night and I'm not sure I want to get into Live chat again. While I have heard of some of these software programs, I have not heard of them all nor do I know how to begin to apply them. So starting at the beginning would be nice with some explicit instructions (in Leyman's terms). And why are people so gun ho on getting far ahead down the road?? Knock it off and take it one week at a time!!! Okay I think I've gotten it out of my system!

Stressed

Okay, so I am little stressed. I don't know which is stressing me out more, the technical difficulty I am having with my computer or all the readings. There is so much reading, I am not sure how to go about completing it all. Hmm? Well, maybe someone can give me some ideas. If anyone is in the Fasttrack program and some good ideas on how to complete all the readings, please let me know. Well, I'm off for the day.
